Thomas M. Dexter was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, in the neighborhood of Feltonville. He spent many years with his own family living in Lawncrest, before finally moving to Mechanicsburg, PA. He passed away February 7, 2023 at the age of 65. Tom was the loving husband of Patricia A. Dexter for 39 years. He was a caring father to Thomas E. Dexter, Jenna Schlosnagle, and Timothy W. Dexter. He will also be greatly missed by his surviving sister, Joan Figueroa, and his grandchildren, Dylan and Layla.
Tom was happiest when he was spending time with family and friends. He loved to be around people and to share all of his interests with them. Whether that was camping at Knoebels, kayaking, shooting his guns, or driving his trucks. He loved his Toyotas, they were his babies. He loved watching movies, especially Godzilla! He also liked movies about the Civil War and Westerns. He enjoyed old horror movies like Dracula and the Wolfman. He liked old TV series like Dark Shadows, Lost in Space, Star Trek and Ultraman. He also liked characters like Conan the Barbarian and Spiderman over the years. No matter what movie, TV series, book or comic book it was, he loved talking about his favorite characters and his favorite versions of them. He knew all their lore. He loved all kinds of music but his favorite was instrumental music from movie soundtracks. Growing up he loved to play hockey with his father and friends from the neighborhood. He did the same with his own kids. He played hockey for many years. He loved his Philadelphia Flyers and all the other Philly sports teams. And we can't forget how much he loved Bruce Lee as well.
Tom will be remembered for how much he loved life. He always appreciated, and told others, to appreciate the small things. Simple things like looking at nature. He loved looking at trees, covered bridges, the small things. He will be remembered for his passionate beliefs in God and his country. He will be remembered for always being a kid at heart, for collecting his Godzilla figures. But most of all he will be remembered for his kind heart, his willingness to help others, and self-sacrificing for his family. He will be remembered for how devoted he was to his wife, Patty. Others have expressed how much they aspire to have the same kind of love that Tom and Patty had.
Relatives and friends are invited to Tom's life Celebration visitation on Monday February 13th from 10:30AM-12PM at the Dean-Geitner-Givnish Life Celebration Home (7900 Oxford Av., Philadelphia, PA 19111) with a service to follow at 12PM; interment at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Tom's memorial fund would be greatly appreciated. https://www.spotfund.com/story/6d16886a-9b0d-457f-bd45-3c1d587f881e?source=s&share_location=c&fbclid=IwAR3yMawvnlcbt5KHnSaqs1tHKYnn1dEaY54ZyHHI7G9LYi_6cRCdyvhBt5o&SFID=j1d9qsc&referral_id=1846d111-7b7c-4f01-8eb3-4a0fb3473d46
