Thomas R. “Tom” Elliott, Stoneboro, Pa, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, March 9, 2016 at home after a brief illness. He was 87.
He was born January 21, 1939 in Meadville, Pa to Thomas R. and Martha G. Melville Elliott.
After high school Tom enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served on the U.S.S. Pine Island, 1956-1959. He was very proud veteran and of his service to his country and he attended many reunions for the Pine Island Veterans of the ship over the years..
Tom retired after 33 years at Joy Manufacturing and was a heat treat operator at the chain plant for many years. A job he enjoyed and also served as a union representative.
He loved cars and collected many over years, including the A.C. Cobra’s, MG’S and the Ford Mustang’s. He loved driving and working on them.
He was also an accomplished artist and had painted many scenes of ships and the seas he sailed on, but the most memorable ones to his family were the paintings he made of Elmo, and Bert & Ernie for his grandchildren.
Tom married his beloved wife, Donna M. Bish Stiver on November 14, 1977 and she survives at home. Also surviving are seven children: Linda (Ron) Brodie, Nannette (Randy) Holtz), Brenda Mageras, Tim Elliott, Aleta Cade, all of Florida; Marla Elliott and Tina (Chris) Heck, both of Indiana; Louis (Lynn) Stiver and Connie Covington, both Stoneboro, Pa and Jennie Allen of Colorado; also twenty-one grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and three sisters: Dorothy Elliott of Texas, Bonnie Stiles of Ohio and Martha “Marty” (Karl) Fielding of Townville, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Wanda Elliott, a great-granddaughter Rachel Elliott and a sister Nancy Seeley.
