Tom Foley was born Thomas Francis Iwaszkiewicz on March 4th, 1934, to Eleanor Leszczynska. Eleanor remarried in 1949 to Ed Foley who Tom looked up to tremendously. In December 1950, Ed Foley officially adopted Tom where he in turn took the name Foley out of the respect he had for his stepfather.
Tom grew up on Creighton St. in Philadelphia from when he was about 5 years old to the end of 8th grade. 9th Grade the family moved to Millbank Rd until the end of his senior year.
Tom was a proud 1952 graduate of West Catholic High School. Straight out of High School Tom enlisted in the US Army and performed his basic training at Fort Sill Oklahoma. He served proudly in 3rd Infantry Division HHC.
Tom worked many jobs growing up from bagging groceries at Penn Fruit to pumping home heating oil. However, there was no job he loved more than being a cameraman. He had the privilege of working alongside of Dick Clark on American Bandstand, to Mike Douglas on the Mike Douglas show, and of course his sports camera work in Connie Mack Stadium (6ABC), the Spectrum with Prism (76ers & Flyers), Tom, who still has the tickets, was at the Flyers very first home game in October 1967 where they defeated the Penguins.
Tom was also the 3rd base cameraman at Veterans Stadium in the 1980s for Phillies & did some Eagles games as well. He brought home many signed baseballs by some of the greats as he worked the 3rd base camera and interacted with visiting teams. He started his career at Channel 6 for a few years and then moved onto Channel 10 in about 1963. Tom retired from Channel 3 in 1994 after 30 years at the then Eyewitness News. After retirement, he came full circle and started part time at where he started - 6ABC, in the studio, behind the camera once again for 10 more years.
Tom enjoyed being an active member of several clubs and organizations. He was active in the Knights of Columbus, Polish American Citizens Club of Camden County, Democrat Club of Gloucester Twp, Elks, and the Moose.
