Thomas John Frey took the hand of Jesus on Saturday, December 13, 2025 after a hard fought battle with failing health. He was born January 11, 1934 to parents Matthew S. and Eva (Lachmann) Frey. He was welcomed home by his older siblings Helen and William. The family lived mainly in North College Hill, Ohio, and Tom graduated from Roger Bacon High School. After graduation, Tom worked for a while, then decided to join the Army where he served from May 1957 until May 1959, being stationed mainly in Germany. Upon his honorable discharge, Tom went back into the work field holding various positions in the grocery business over the years, until he went to work for the Cincinnati Public school system, from which he retired after many years of service.
Tom loved music of all sorts including opera, classical, Streisand, and even disco. He sang for many years in the May Festival and was always talking about a play or an opera that he enjoyed with his friends. He also loved to travel. In his early years, he went on several camping trips with his sister and her family from Indiana. Later he made several trips to Europe with his friends. He was always up for another adventure.
Tom was a member of the New Jerusalum Church where he made many cherished and beloved friends. He also had a special friendship with his next door neighbors Lucy and Clarence who became his second family.
Tom is survived by his sister Helen Huffman, nieces Susan Dudgeon, Jeanne Greive and Debbie Holt, also nephews Jeffrey Huffman, Steven Frey, Mark Frey and Mike Frey, along with many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew and Eva, his brother William, and his brother in law William Huffman.
Tom’s wishes were to donate his body to the U.C. School of Medicine, and then cremation. There will be no services at this time. Hodapp Funeral Home of College Hill is in charge of his arrangements for future interment.
