Thomas Daniel Futhrell, 82, passed away peacefully at his Chesapeake home on December 5, 2025. Born in Norfolk County, VA on June 27, 1943 to Daniel Futhrell and Elizabeth Murphy Futhrell McCoy, Tom graduated from Oscar Smith High School and joined the United States Army National Guard where he served his country for 6 years. Tom worked for the City of Chesapeake in the IT Department for 34 years until his retirement in 2001. Tom married Vivian Bank on July 8, 1967 and they were married until her passing in 2005.
Tom was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose - South Norfolk Lodge 464, where he worked closely with their community involvement efforts. He was also a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
He joins his beloved wife Vivian, parents Daniel and Elizabeth, step-father Stanley McCoy, brothers and sisters-in-law Larry and Mary Bank and Billy and Pat Bank in Heaven.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Beth South and husband Greg and Lisa Morris and partner Brandon; grandsons Forrest South and wife Christina, Hunter Morris, and Noah South; brothers and sisters-in-law Jimmy and Rita Bank, and Earle and Kathy Bank; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown, Great Bridge Chapel on Tuesday, December 9, 2025 from 5 to 7PM. A service will be held at the same location the following day, December 10, at 12 noon, with Pastor Tracy Gregory presiding. Services will conclude at the adjacent Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. Guests are invited to the home of Tom for food and fellowship following services. Condolences to the family may be offered at www.hollomon-brown.com.
