Thomas Michael Genaw, affectionately known as the "Tom", passed away peacefully on Monday, April 14, 2025, in
Hendersonville, North Carolina. He was 67 years old.
Born on June 1, 1957, in Port Huron, Michigan, Tom's journey through life was marked by warmth, kindness, and an unwavering love for people. He spent his formative years growing up in Orlando, Florida, where he graduated from Maynard Evans High School.
Tom moved to
Hendersonville, North Carolina, where he found his true calling in serving others. Over the years, he worked as a waiter at various restaurants throughout the area, leaving indelible impressions on countless patrons. His genuine smile and caring demeanor made every dining experience memorable, especially for young customers, to whom he would often present toys or crayons, spreading joy and laughter.
Known for his immense popularity and friendly nature, it was a common occurrence for Tom to be greeted with hugs, handshakes, or even a meal bought by those who cherished him. We lovingly referred to him as the "Mayor of Hendersonville" because of his popularity. His presence lit up any room he entered, and his absence leaves a profound void in the hearts of many.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Beverly Genaw; and his brother, Bryon Genaw.
He is survived by his loving sisters, Debbie Genaw of Winter Springs, Florida, Sandy O'Steen of
Hendersonville, North Carolina, Christine Brackett of Columbus, North Carolina, and Lisa MacDougall of Concord, New Hampshire. His legacy of kindness and warmth will continue to live on through them and the countless lives he touched.
In accordance with his wishes, no formal services are planned. While we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the joy and love he brought into our lives.
Rest well, my love – the heavens will forever be a bit brighter.
