Thomas Graney Obituary

Thomas S. Graney passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on May 1, 2025, just shy of his 95th birthday. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Thomas was deeply cherished by his family and all who knew him.
Thomas grew up in Haworth, New Jersey, and attended Tenafly High School, where he played football and formed lifelong friendships. After graduation, he moved to Montgomery, New York, where he embraced country life, living on a farm and raising cows and horses. In the 1950s, hesettled in Tappan, New York, which remained his home for decades.
He was a hardworking and independent spirit-mostly self-employed throughout his life-and was also a well-known bartender at two of Tappan's local landmarks: the historic 76 House and Giulio's Restaurant. Thomas had a welcoming presence and a quick wit, always ready to sharea story or a laugh. He was also a member of the Tappan Fire Department for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Lois, and their three children: Sue Graney-Lenihan of Sloatsburg, NY and her husband Thomas; Karen Graney-Temple of Tappan, NY and her husband Thomas; and his sons Brian Graney of Denville, New Jersey and his wife Donna and Scott Graney of Congers. Thomas was a proud grandfather to Sean, Brendan, and Kate Lenihan; Alice, Grace, and Sarah Temple; and Brianna and Izzy Graney; Luke (who passed) and Dylan Graney. He was also a great-grandfather to Hannah and Paige Lenihan.
A Celebration of Life will be held to honor and remember Thomas. Details will be shared with family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Thomas's memory by spending time with loved ones and cherishing each day.
