Thomas A. Grondin, 82, of Danvers, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 27, 2023. He was the loving husband of Eleanor L. (Haynes) Grondin, with whom he shared sixty years of marriage.
Born in Danvers on October 15, 1940, Tom was the son of the late Alfred and Agnes (Slazenik) Grondin. A graduate of Holten High School, he continued his studies at Boston College, later obtaining a master's degree from Salem State College. In pursuit of his passion for learning, he dedicated over thirty years to teaching math, first at Bishop Fenwick High School and then Stoneham High School, where he also coached the math and tennis teams.
Outside the classroom, Tom served in the Coast Guard Reserves and was a communicant of Saint Richard's Church. He was happiest spending time with his family, instilling a love of nature, cycling, hiking, swimming, reading, and a strong work ethic to all around him. Tom was as comfortable with a chain saw as a tennis racquet, enjoyed cheering for the Patriots and Red Sox, and read the Bible and dictionary for fun. The warm Florida sun in Barefoot Bay was his winter retreat.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and memories with his wife, Eleanor; his children, Valerie Mitchell and her husband William, Cynthia Grondin, Michael Grondin and his wife Darla, and David Grondin and his wife Susan; and his 11 grandchildren, Michael, Jack, Brian, Erin, Katelyn, Jonathan, Kevin, Emily, Nicholas, Christopher, and Thomas. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Howard "Pete" Haynes. Tom was predeceased by his brothers, John and Francis.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at 10AM in Saint Richard's Church, 90 Forest St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom's memory may be made to the Friends of the Peabody Institute Library, 15 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923 or the Jimmy Fund, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284.
