Thomas Birks Guetz October 30, 1936 - August 13, 2025
Tom was born in Kansas City, MO on 0ctober 30, 1936 to parents Carroll Henry and Lois Birks Guetz. The family moved to Casper, Wyoming when Tom was 3 years old and his dad bought the Culligan Soft Water business. He had a great childhood growing up in Casper with all his Guetz cousins. The family enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and all outdoor activities. Tom graduated from Natrona County High School (NCHS) in 1954. His senior year he met the love of his life Nancy Hartwell who was a sophomore and they loved all the school dances. Tom went to University of Wyoming and Nancy joined him 2 years later. They got married in 1958 and returned to Laramie for Tom to finish his degree and be commissioned as a Lieutenant in the US Air Force for flight school. His effective date of service began on December 11,1959 the day their son Scott was born in Casper. Tom left for San Antonio, TX to start preflight training while Nancy was still in the hospital with their newborn. His first assigned base to start flying was Moore Air Force Base in Mission, TX where Nancy and Scott joined him. From there they moved to Big Spring, TX and final training in San Antonio where 2nd son, Brent was born in 1961. His first assignment was to Dover, DE where he flew the air refueling plane KC-97 and was in the SAC squadron where he was on alert guarding our country.
In 1963 Tom chose to go to more training to fly the KC-135 The family moved to Northern California Castle AFB and were also stationed at Walker AFB, NM and Altus AFB,OK. In 1966, Tom decided to retire from the Air Force and fly for Continental Airlines. The family lived in California for 2 years until Tom had enough seniority to move to Denver. They were happy to be closer to family after moving so many times. Tom loved flying for Continental until the strike in 1983. He then went to work for Home Lumber running the truss department until he retired in 1999. Tom enjoyed being assistant coach for both boys in baseball and football then later going to all their games in high school and college. The family enjoyed skiing at Winter Park most weekends and spending spring breaks in Hawaii since they were able to fly on passes. Tom and Nancy enjoyed sailing trips in the British Virgin Islands and lots of traveling to Europe, Australia and New Zealand where they played a golf course with sheep doing the grass cutting! Their greatest joy was spending time with their son's, daughter-in-laws and grandchildren. Tom and Nancy always felt so blessed with their wonderful life.
Tom enjoyed many years of golf and skiing with his many Pinehurst friends, He last skied when he was 84 years old.
Tom is preceded in death by his mother, father, grandson Spence Harrison and granddaughter Tara Guetz. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; sons Scott (Patti) and Brent (Jamie); brother Mike (Linda) Guetz; granddaughters Katie (Brooks Taylor), Emily (Sid Wood), Sami, Shay (Zach Lindahl), Jake Niss, Ashley (Brandon Robinson); two great grandsons Walker Thomas Lindahl, and Jack Birks Taylor.
