Thomas HAGGARTY Obituary

Medical Lake - Thomas Gregory Haggarty, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Medical Lake, WA, on August 17, 2024. He was born on August 24, 1934, in Spokane, Washington, and lived a life filled with dedication, adventure, and love. Tom was a proud graduate of Lewis & Clark High School, Class of 1952, where he was an Eagle Scout. His commitment to service was evident early on when he volunteered for the draft during the Korean War in 1953. He served honorably in the U.S. Army for two years, primarily stationed in Germany along with 10 years in the Reserve. Following his military service, Tom returned to college, pursuing higher education, and graduated from Washington State College in 1959 with a degree in engineering. His professional career was distinguished and impactful, marked by his roles with the Department of Transportation, Water Pollution Control Commission, and Eastern Regional Manager for the Department of Ecology. As a Professional Engineer, Tom made significant contributions as a consultant for over 52 years with Pacific Environmental Consulting and E&H Engineering, leaving a lasting legacy through his work on water, sewer, and street infrastructure for numerous cities, towns, and districts throughout Eastern Washington. Tom's passions extended beyond his professional life. An avid outdoorsman, he was known for his love of bird hunting, big game hunting, and fishing. Weekends often found him in the field or on a lake, and he was also an excellent water and snow skier. In the 1970s, Tom and his wife Joyce purchased the Canawaii Ranch south of Wilbur, where they enjoyed hay and cattle ranching into the mid 1990's. Tom is preceded in death by his mother, Isabelle, his father, Thomas R., and his sister, Patricia Kindsvogel. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Joyce Denny; with whom he had two sons, Tom (married to Kimberly Collier) and Duffy (married to Chelle Eastman). He is also survived by his two loving daughters from a previous marriage, Lisa (married to Ken Burk) and Cindy (married to Mark Twyman). A Color Guard Memorial Service will be held at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake on September 18, 2024, at 1:00 PM. Memories and tributes to Tom can be shared on his Legacy obituary page with the Spokesman or with the Neptune Society at https://neptunesociety.com/obituaries/spokane-wa/ thomas-haggarty-11949597. Tom's legacy of service, love, and an avid adventurer will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. He lived his life with integrity and passion, and his memory will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.

I grew up with Lisa and Cindy in the Spokane valley and called Lisa my `best friend´ all through primary and elementary school. Although it´s been many decades since I´ve had contact with the Haggarty family, I have countless wonderful childhood memories of time spent at their beautiful cabin, where they taught me how to water ski; and at their home for slumber parties, amazing Halloween birthday parties, and playing with our Barbie dolls! Some of the best times I had during those years were spent with all of them, and I will always be grateful for the love and welcome I felt in their home. I think of Tom and his girls often and will always remember his kindness and the warmth he and his family extended to me.

I was pretty little when I got to spend time with Uncle Tom. My Mom and Dad spoke so highly of him. I´m so sorry for your loss. Sending all my love and hugs! Michelle
