Thomas Hanneman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Herman-Taylor Funeral Home - Wisconsin Rapids on Mar. 3, 2026.
Thomas "Tom" J. Hanneman, age 72, of Wisconsin Rapids passed away Friday, February 20, 2026 at his residence.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family and friends sharing starting at 7:30 p.m. at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin.

Tom was born on February 20, 1954, in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, to James "Jim" and Marjorie "Marge" Hanneman. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids. On August 28, 2004, he was united in marriage to Kathy Gerzmehle in a beautiful ceremony at Lake Wazeecha in Wisconsin Rapids. Tom worked as a semi-truck driver for FedEx, dedicating many years to the road before retiring in January 2024.

Tom found his greatest joy in the outdoors, spending his free time fishing, hunting, hiking, backpacking, camping, or kayaking. He enjoyed sharing his love of the outdoors and favorite activities with family, friends, and his beloved dog, Molly. When he wasn't outdoors, he was learning about nature by reading or watching National Geographic or talking with anyone he met during his travels. He was a proud member of The Friends of Sandhill and Ducks Unlimited.

Tom also cherished time spent around a campfire surrounded by family, extended family, and dear friends. With a quick wit and an easy laugh, he filled gatherings with stories, jokes, and warmth, creating memories that will be cherished for years to come.

His greatest treasure in life was being "Dad" "Papa" and "Grandpa Tom".

Tom is survived by his children: Tina (Scott) Engroff, William "BJ" (Andrea) Wagner, Ryan (Nikki) Whipple, and Jenna Hanneman; grandchildren: Griffin, Brayden and Holden Engroff, Nathan and Isabella Wagner, Sean, Erin, Zach and Caleb Whipple, Jayda and Jacob Kelley; siblings: Pat Hanneman, Mary (Pat) Hilgers, Terry (Tim) Weier, Mark "Gig" (Lori) Hanneman, John (Mariya) Hanneman; cousins: Arthur "Guppy" (Jeannie) Hanneman, and Eric "Rick" (Jan) Forton. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews as well as good friends: Michelle "Nana Shell" Lewis, Randy and Sandy Witt, and Mark Knuth.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Kathy Hanneman; parents, Jim and Marge Hanneman; and his dog, Molly.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Rubio and the nurses at Aspirus Hospital and Hospice for their kindness and compassion. As well as a special thank you to many family members and close friends for giving him rides to appointments, running errands, and for spending time with Dad during his final weeks and moments. He knew he was deeply loved by so many.

Personal message from Tom:
