It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas Andrew Hanson, who left this world peacefully on December 2nd, 2025, surrounded by those who loved him most. While our hearts are heavy, we are grateful that he is no longer in pain after bravely facing his battle with cancer.
Born on July 14th, 1944, Tom was a man who found joy in life's simple, honest moments. He loved being at home, whether he was outside cutting the grass, relaxing in his favorite spot, or enjoying the quiet company of his loyal dog, Star. The two were inseparable. Star would wait by the door each day, knowing Tom would soon be ready to hop in the truck for their regular ride to the local watering hole. Those small routines brought him comfort, peace, and genuine happiness.
Tom cherished every connection with his family. When distance kept them apart, he treasured each periodic phone call, catching up, sharing laughs, and staying close despite the miles. And when they were able to be together, nothing made him happier than singing with them, even if it was just out on the back porch. Those simple moments of togetherness were among his greatest joys.
He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, quiet strength, and the warmth he carried into every room. The sunrise that filled his window in his final days gave us one last reminder of his light, soft, steady, and unforgettable.
Tom is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Hanson; his children Robert R. Hanson (Jennifer), Elizabeth Jankowski (Joe), Rebecca Carpenter (Mike), and Amanda Renner (William), and their mother, Judy; his stepdaughters Jill Zobel and Jayne Burns. He is also preceded in death by Nancy's son, Andy. Tom is survived as well by his brother Richard Hanson (Maureen); and his grandchildren Kayla, Joey (Matt), Katie, Frankie, Robbie, Faith, Grace, Maggie, Larissa, and TJ; and step grandchildren, Shane Braden Brody and Owen. He is lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews Rich, Jim, Marryellen, and Kyle.
He is further survived by Nancy's brothers and sisters: Janis Kumpelis (Paul), Gregory Sr. Bruff (Eileen), Sherry Kopschitz (Dick), Cynthia Binder (Rudy), Sandra Snyder (Al), Mary Green (Jerry), Charles Bruff (Karen), and Jeffrey Bruff (Mary). They were especially close to him during their years together in Chesaning, Michigan, forming a bond that felt like true family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl A. Hanson and Ellen Hanson; his son Thomas Hanson Jr.; and his beloved dog Star, who surely welcomed him home once again.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025 at St. Michael Church, located at 17994 Lincoln Rd,
New Lothrop, MI. Social hour will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by Mass at 10:30 a.m., with a small lunch to follow.
Rest peacefully, Dad. We will miss you always, and we will carry your love with us forever.
