Thomas Hawkins Obituary

Visit the Groesbeck Funeral Home, Inc. - Groesbeck website to view the full obituary.

Tom Hawkins, 85, of Groesbeck, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025, after a long and well-lived life devoted to faith, family, and the community he cherished.

Tom was born on May 13, 1940, in Groesbeck, TX to Euleta and Jack Hawkins. A proud graduate of Groesbeck High School, he went on to attend Southwestern University in Georgetown, earning his degree in 1962. Following graduation, Tom honorably served two years in the United States Air Force.

After completing his military service, Tom returned home to Groesbeck to join the family business, The Groesbeck Journal. His work there allowed him to stay deeply rooted in the town he loved. Tom was active for many years in the Groesbeck Ex-Students Association, the Groesbeck Chamber of Commerce and the Groesbeck Lions Club. His commitment to service and community involvement reflected the pride he carried for Groesbeck throughout his life.

A man of strong faith, Tom was a longtime and devoted member of the First Methodist Church of Groesbeck.

Tom held a special place in his heart for his ‘Journal family’.

For the past two and a half years, Tom resided at Gateway Gardens in Marble Falls. Even there, he continued to share stories about Groesbeck—its history, its people, and the memories that meant so much to him.

Tom is survived by his sister, Martha Stone of Groesbeck currently living in Marble Falls; his brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Susan Hawkins of Dallas; niece Sonya Luechauer and her husband Kirby of Horseshoe Bay; nephew David Stone of Temple; and niece Anna Hawkins of Portland, Oregon. He is also survived by great-nieces Ashley Clark and her husband Matt, Zoe Garrison and her husband Caleb, Shelby Stone and great-nephew Zach Luechauer.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Euleta Hawkins, and by his brother-in-law, Jack Stone.

Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at First Methodist Church in Groesbeck and burial following Fort Parker Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the First Methodist Church of Groesbeck or the Groesbeck Ex-Students Association—organizations that honor Tom’s lifelong love for his community
