Tom Howard, affectionately known as “Pappy and Grandpa Tommy,” passed away peacefully with his family by his side on January17, 2026. Tom was born on March 1,1935 in Ellenton, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Laurie Sarah Keever and Guy Cummings Howard, and half-sister Gypsie Adams.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Denise; daughters Terry Medeiros (late husband, Johnny), Laurie Moody (Matt), Stephanie Orr (David); and stepson Paul Buffington (Cindy). He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren – Amanda Hamrick, Robert Moody, Crystal Moody (deceased), Jonnilyn Spinks, Alex Orr, Taylor Buffington, Chase Buffington, and Ayden Buffington and six great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy.

A graduate of Manatee High School in Bradenton, FL, Tom excelled both on the football field and in the school band, where he played the French horn. He began his career in banking as a teller at the Bank of Palmetto in Palmetto, FL, and dedicated 33 years to the industry, retiring as President of First Florida Bank in Lakeland, FL.

Tom lived life to the fullest. He loved quail hunting with his dad, golfing, fishing, and spending time outdoors. Above all, Tom cherished his family and the beautiful life they shared. He will be remembered for his integrity, warmth, and humor.

A celebration of life will be held at Heath Funeral Chapel in Lakeland, FL on Friday, January 23, 2026. Visitation will begin at 11:30 am with the service at 12:00 pm. A light lunch will be provided after the service. Graveside services will follow at Oak Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Tunnel to Towers, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or the charity of your choice.
