Thomas "Tommy" Hurley was born on November 29, 1949 in Fort Payne, Alabama, the son of the late Joseph Thomas and Reba June Kean Hurley.
Tommy was raised at Pickwick Lake and was an avid deer hunter and fisherman. He was a member of East End Methodist Church in Savannah, Tennessee where he was also baptized.
Another one of his passions was flying. He was an airplane pilot and flight instructor for many years.
Mr. Hurley was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a Shriner. He owned and operated a tire company in Crump, Tennessee. He literally built the business himself. Not even the broken foot he had at the time stopped him from constructing his business. He worked at Packaging Corporation of America for 48 years. Tommy was a member of Paper Makers Union for 30 years and the Electrician's Local Union for 20 years. He went to electrical school for 5 years while working at the paper mill. He also started a tree business during the time he was working at the mill. After getting off work at the mill, Tommy would trim trees as another source of income for his family.
On August 13, 1975, Tommy was united in marriage to Teresa Jo Glover. Tommy was not only a wonderful husband to Teresa, but her best friend as well. He was a great father and always took care of the family they built together. He will by missed terribly, but his family knows he is at peace and is in a better place.
Tommy was a person that had a lot of initiative and "get up and go". He was always trying something new. Three years ago, Tommy had to slow down after he was diagnosed with dementia. He spent the year and a half at the nursing home in Parsons, Tennessee.
Thomas "Tommy" Hurley departed this life on February 10, 2024 in Parsons, Tennessee at the age of 74 years, 2 months, and 12 days.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Teresa Hurley of Counce, Tennessee; son, Jarrod Todd Hurley (Lisa Winger) of Memphis, Tennessee; brother, Michael Hurley of Pickwick Dam, Tennessee; sister, Deloris Rast (Jim) of Iuka, Mississippi; grandchildren, Riley Bray Hurley (Grace) and Teagen Hurley (Creed); and great grandchild, Jaxon Liam Hurley.
In addition to his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by his sisters, Becky Smith, Joyce Ann Smith, and Donna Childers.
