Thomas L. "Tom" Kohm, 71, of Jackson, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2025, with family at his side, at his home in Jackson. Tom valiantly fought a three-year battle with cancer.
He was born March 7, 1953, in St. Louis, Mo., to Alvin and Odile Fallert Kohm. He was raised in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, and was a 1971 graduate of Valle Catholic High School. He and Susanne "Susie" Schwent were married April 25, 1975, in Ste. Genevieve.
Tom worked 30 years at Procter and Gamble, retiring in 2015. From 2016 to 2018, Tom enjoyed working at the Jackson CivicCenter. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson.
Tom was a loving, kind, and thoughtful husband, father, and grandfather who's laughter and positivity will forever be remembered. When he wasn't doting on his wife, kids, or grandkids, he was a faithful catholic, super brother, loyal friend, coach, fisherman, and gardener. Tom loved music. He was a gifted musician, playing piano, guitar, banjo, and fiddle in several local bands. In later years, he often serenated his wife in their home. Tom's light and kindness was felt by everyone he met. He had only one nemesis in his life – groundhogs.
Loving survivors include his wife of nearly 50 years, Susie Kohm of Jackson; five children: Jessica Heinley of Jackson; Avery (Taylor) Kohm of San Antonio, Texas; Christopher (Sara) Kohm of Kansas City, Missouri; Patrick (Kirsten) Kohm of St. Louis; and Hannah Kohm of St. Louis; nine grandchildren: Zavier (Chandler) Heinley and her son Colton of Amarillo, Texas; Genevieve Heinley of Jackson; Guy and Olivia Kohm of San Antonio, Texas; Alden and Wells Kohm of Kansas City; Rylan, Juniper, and RoseMary Kohm of St. Louis; three siblings: Michael (Julie) Kohm of Ste. Genevieve; Richard (Lori) Kohm of Desloge, Missouri; and Danny (Nikki) Kohm of O'Fallon, Missouri; and nieces and nephews.
Survivors of Susie's family include her siblings, Tim (late Patricia) Schwent; Mary (Tim) English of Magnolia, Texas; Clare (Allen) Roth of Ste. Genevieve; Mick (Doris) Schwent of Desoto, Missouri; John (late Suzanne) Schwent of Ste. Genevieve; Stanley (Janet) Schwent of Ste. Genevieve; Joseph (Jane) Schwent of Bloomsdale, Missouri; Mark (Amy) Schwent of Fenton, Missouri; and nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Odile Fallert Kohm; an infant sister, Arlene Kohm; Susie's parents, Stanley James and Patricia Ann Maness Schwent; and Susie's brothers, Dennis and Gerard Schwent.
