Thomas G "Tom" Laps

Thomas G. "Tom" Laps, 69, of Novelty, passed away Aug. 29, 2023, in Aurora.
He was born Sept. 13, 1953, in Niceville, Fla.
Tom was a U.S. Navy veteran, having proudly served as a submariner aboard the USS Sea Devil. He was a retired nuclear inspector at the Perry and Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Plants.
His greatest loves, besides his family and pets, were golf, fishing, the Massillon Tigers, Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Guardians. Tom had a big personality and will be fondly remembered for his great sense of humor, colorful turns of phrase, generous heart, sports knowledge, and never-ending loyalty to his family.
Tom was the beloved husband of 26 years to Roberta "Robbi" (nee Sanders); loving father of Scott (Ashley); stepfather of Matthew (Mariya) Widdowson and Michael Widdowson; cherished grandfather of Evie; dear brother of Larry (Tela), Todd (Shelly), and Linda (Bob) Dehnke; loving uncle of many; and the adored "human" to Gage, Winston, Calvin, Onyx and Kiwi.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene L. and Margaret E. (nee Woutat) Laps.
Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13 (on what would have been Tom's 70th birthday), at The Abbey of Willoughby, 38011 Euclid Ave. (located on the grounds of McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home), in Willoughby, with a Celebration of Life service at 6:30 p.m. A private burial will be held at Waite Hill Cemetery. To celebrate Tom's love of golf, the family asks that gentlemen please wear your favorite golf shirt, no suits required.
