Thomas Larsson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Anderson Funeral Home and Crematory on Feb. 11, 2026.
Captain Thomas Richard Larsson, U.S. Marine Corps (Retired), died on Sunday, February 8, 2026 at his residence in Burton. He was 90 years old.

Tommy was born on November 25, 1935, in Freeport, NY, a son of the late Nels Oscar Larsson and Muriel Isabella (O'Meally) Larsson. He was the widower of his cherished wife, Helen Leah (Stevenson) Larsson, who passed away in November, 2024.

Tommy enlisted in the Marine Corps when he was 17 years old. He honorably served his country until his retirement in 1976. His faithful service included a tour in Vietnam in 1968-69. After retirement the family settled in Burton. Tommy earned a bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of South Carolina in 1980. He then worked for the Economic Opportunity Commission for several years in Beaufort and Charleston.

Tommy was an avid golfer who spent many days walking the golf course well into his late 80's. He scored a Hole In One on two occasions, one at Pearl Harbor Naval Base, Hawaii and the other at MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina. He was a huge fan of the USC Gamecocks and the Dallas Cowboys.

Tommy's greatest achievement was his 67 year marriage to his devoted wife, his "Babe". They shared a beautiful love story and were a perfect example of "Happily Ever After". It gives the family great comfort knowing that Mom & Dad are together again.

Tommy is survived by his children Catherine M. Copeland, Burton, Thomas "Tucker" R. (Denise) Larsson, Jr., Burton, and Linda S. (Jack) Larsson-Wheeler, Chapin, grandchildren David J. (Melissa) Copeland, Ohio, Daniel P. (Beverly) Copeland, Florida, Catherine "Catie" E. (Daniel) Murphy, Guam, Sarah M. (Matthew) Armbruster, Florida, and Thomas R. Larsson III, Beaufort. He has also been blessed with several delightful great-grandchildren and a large, loving extended family.

Tommy is predeceased by his grandchildren Kyle Larsson Wheeler and Christina Francis Larsson, and brother Nels Edmund Larsson.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM at Anderson Funeral Home, 611 Robert Smalls Parkway, Beaufort, SC with burial with military honors following at the Beaufort National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary Street, Beaufort, SC, beginning at 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Amedysis Hospice Care of Beaufort, who provided such kind, compassionate care for Tommy during his last few months.
