Obituary published on Legacy.com by Southern Utah Mortuary - Cedar City on Oct. 1, 2025.
Thomas Leslie Laursen, age 77, passed away in his home on September 6, 2025, in
Cedar City, Utah.
He was born in Logan, Utah, to Douglas Otto Laursen and Margaret Jean Meyers, and grew up in Granger-Hunter Utah. Tom attended Granger High School, where he made many lifelong friends.
After high school, Tom married Judy Cluphf. Together they raised seven children: Stephen, Richard, Jennifer, Joanna, Leslie, Amie, and Dana. Though they later divorced.
In time, Tom met the love of his life, Alene Durrant. They were married and sealed for time and all eternity in the St. George Temple. Through this union, Tom's family grew to include five more children: Kristie, Stephanie, Tyler, Cody, and McKenna whom he took in as his own and loved unconditionally.
In his younger years, Tom proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He later went on to earn a bachelor's degree in business at the University of Utah. Over the years he held several jobs, but the one that brought him the most joy was his work with TW Recreational Services, where he was responsible for purchasing souvenirs for the national parks throughout Utah. He loved the outdoors and found great satisfaction in sharing the beauty of the state through his work.
Tom was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many callings throughout his life, including high priest group leader, teacher, home teacher, and temple worker. One of his favorite callings was serving in the nursery, where he loved being with the sweet little children. He was dedicated, active, and served faithfully wherever he was needed.
Tom loved the outdoors and spent much of his free time hunting, fishing, and telling embellished stories about his many adventures. His greatest joy in life, however, came from his family. He loved being surrounded by his children and grandchildren, and he will be remembered for his generosity, humor, and the warmth he brought to every gathering.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas Otto and Margaret Jean Laursen; his father-in-law, Ronald Durrant; and his beloved son, Cody James Davis.
He is survived by his loving wife, Alene Laursen; his children Stephen Laursen (Sharla), Richard Laursen (Lisa), Jennifer Nielson (Jeff), Joanna Cuthers (Ryan), Leslie Tyler (Nate), Amie Wilcock (Adam), Dana Miskell (Jason), Kristie Swindlehurst (Weston), Stephanie Davis, Tyler Laursen (Ashley), and McKenna Cordova (Jaron); his siblings Becky Jones (Darwin), Lee Laursen (Valorie), Paul Laursen (Janell), and Jon Laursen; his Mother-in-law Lorea Durrant. He also leaves behind 33 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, all of whom adored him.
Tom leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a lifetime of storytelling that will continue to inspire his family for generations to come.
