Thomas “Tom” Earl Lind, 78, passed away on June 11, 2025, at home with his wife in Brinnon, Washington. He was born to Earl and Bernice (Hornby) Lind on October 1, 1946, in Brainerd, Minnesota. Tom grew up in a large family with four sisters and a brother. The family lived in four states during his childhood: Minnesota, Montana, Oregon and California. After high school graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Travis Air Force Base from 1966 until 1970.
Tom attended a 2-year community college in Winona, MN studying and obtaining his A&P License (Airframe and Powerplant license to maintain aircraft by the FAA).
Tom married the love of his life, Susan (Hegstrom) Lind on June 2, 1973, in Brainerd, MN. Tom and Susan moved to Washington in 1974, spending 38 years in Lake Stevens and the last 13 years in Brinnon, WA .
Tom worked as a mechanic for Boeing, specializing in electric forklifts, and retired in August of 2011 after 38 years.
Tom was a family man. He spent much of his time with his wife and 3 sons doing all sorts of activities including skiing, camping, boating, and traveling back to Minnesota. He was a do-it-yourself type of man and was known to be able to fix anything. He often searched around the house for tasks he could do and things he could fix; anything from cars to cameras, if it needed fixing, he was who you called on. In retirement, he and Susan moved to Brinnon and together they rebuilt 3 decks and took care of a large yard. They wintered in Gold Canyon, Arizona.
Tom was a member of many organizations. He attended Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Lake Stevens and, in retirement, Peace Lutheran Fellowship in Port Ludlow. He sang in the Everett Chorale for a few years, and he was a parent to 2 Eagle Scouts in Lake Stevens Troop #41. When Tom was in the Air Force, he played the bass guitar in a rock band that won 1st place in the 1968 Travis Air Force Base Talent Contest, and 2nd place in the national contest held in Dover, Delaware.
Thomas is survived by his adoring wife of 52 years, Susan; sons, Matthew Thomas Lind (Angelica), Ethan Nathaniel Lind (Mariah), Adam Phillip Lind (Lu Jie); sisters, Susan Kirchgessner (Mike), Julie Witt (Dan), Judy Anable (Jim), Carla Loss (Tom); brother, Gerald Lind (Nanci); grandchildren, Elise Joy Lind, Wyatt Matthew Lind, Mulan Lind; and nieces and nephews, Chrissy Turner, Charlotte Feliciano, Michelle Boser, Staci Holmes, Jennifer Avery, Jason Lind, Jessica Lamoureux, Nicole Lind, Joey Loss, Annie Loss, Jeana Clampitt, Kelsey Middlemiss, Amelia Villhauer, Molly Masoner, Nicole Hegstrom, and Evan Hegstrom.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Bea Lind.
Tom was laid to rest on June 17, 2025, at Tahoma National Cemetery during a private family Graveside service. He will be loved and greatly missed by all who knew him.
