Thomas Maher Obituary
Born in Scranton PA, Thomas had been a lifelong resident of Hawthorne until his retirement in 2001 when he moved to Fair Lawn. A former business owner of Alpha Security Systems, Thomas was also a real estate agent. In his spare time, Thomas enjoyed being active is his community and served as past president of the following organizations: Hawthorne Chamber of Commerce, Hawthorne Rotary, and the Hawthorne Lions Club. He was also a former member of the Hawthorne Gun Club and the Fair Lawn Amateur Radio Club. Thomas's devotion to his community was second to his love for his family and friends.
Thomas was the beloved husband of Janice (nee Van Kruiningen) Maher for 57 years. Loving father of Christopher S. Maher and his wife Debra of Island Heights and David J. Maher and his wife Michele of Denville. Dear grandfather of Katelynn, Megan, Christopher Jr., Connor, Jennifer, and Kaitlyn. Great-grandfather of Ronan. Brother of Geraldine Fenlon and predeceased by his two brothers, Robert Maher and Gerry Maher. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30am on Friday, July 11, 2025, at the Browning-Forshay Funeral Home, 557 Lafayette Avenue, Hawthorne. Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Thursday, July 10th from 3:00 – 7:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hawthorne Lions Club, PO Box 105, Hawthorne, NJ. 07506.

I worked with Tom at Amento's in Wayne in 72. I also worked with him when he was setting up Alpha Security Systems. Tom was a genuine nice guy. He will be missed by all. Sorry about your loss!

My deepest sympathy to Tom´s family. I knew Tom from my day at Hawthorne High Class of 58. Tom was a well liked man with ambition and personality and a sense of community service. May he rest in peace knowing he was a good and faithful servant.
