Thomas Jefferson Mahone

Tom graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1957 with a BS degree in Electrical Engineering. He started working for Lockheed that year after being accepted into Lockheed's "Work/Study" program. He attended UCLA's Engineering Graduate School and received a Master's degree in 1960. Tom became a dedicated member of Lockheed's "Skunk Works" in the late 1970's. He was named Lockheed's Robert E. Gross winner in 1985 for his work in the development of advanced flight control systems. It is said that Tom was largely responsible for the success on the X-35 Joint Strike Fighter and the outstanding F-35. Tom fully retired from Lockheed in 2001. He then was able to enjoy many wonderful trips with Carol, seeing much of our world.

Tom passed away peacefully, at his home, surrounded by family. He leaves his wife of 43 years, Carol Christie Mahone, his sons, Paul and Mark Mahone and 4 stepchildren, Nancy Wilkens, Jim, Bill and Sally Daggs. He also leaves 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
