Thomas Arthur Martin, Sr.
February 1, 1953 – May 20, 2025
Thomas Arthur Martin, Sr., 72, of Richmond, Kentucky, formerly of Lexington, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Danville, Kentucky, Tom was the son of the late Arthur Fields and Laura Spicer Martin. A proud graduate of Tates Creek High School, Tom built a lasting career with Overnite Transportation Company, where he worked for over 30 years and was known for his loyalty and strong work ethic. Alongside his late wife, Kaye, he also helped run their family craft business, Creations by Kaye, for more than three decades - a true labor of love that made them beloved figures in the craft community.
A man of deep and unwavering faith, Tom was a longtime member of First Church of God in Lexington and, more recently, Southland Christian Church in Richmond. His trust in God was the cornerstone of his life - shaping his roles as husband, father, and friend, and forming the foundation for how he led his family with love, integrity, and purpose. Tom lived out his faith through kindness, humility, and compassion, always offering strength and comfort to those around him.
Tom had a deep appreciation for music and cultivated an impressive collection that spanned generations. Nothing brought him more joy than being "Papaw" to his grandchildren and cheering them on at their games and activities.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Vickie Martin of Richmond; his beloved children, Kim (Bill) Clark of Lexington, Tommy (Addie) Martin of Versailles, and Shauna (Jason) Adler of Louisville; and his cherished grandchildren: Tate, Tucker, Tanner, Alex, Trey, Mason, Charlotte, Tripp, and Caroline. He also leaves behind Vickie's daughter, Sara (Matt) Burns of Berea, and two treasured bonus granddaughters, Kylie and Madison, who brought him great joy. Tom is also survived by his loving brothers, Ron (Brenda) Martin of Fort Myers and Greg (Sandy) Martin of Lexington, along with many other dear family members and friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his first wife of 42 years, Kaye Martin, and his brother, John Martin.
A celebration of Tom's life will be held at 12:30 PM on Friday, May 30, 2025, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home – Harrodsburg Road, with burial to follow at Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations be made to the Southland Christian Church – Richmond Campus Dollar Club. Contributions may be made online at: https://southland.church/give
(Please select the "Richmond Campus" and reference the Dollar Club in the notes.)
