T. David Matthews was born in Indianapolis on July 12, 1948, and passed away on October 25, 2025, in his hometown. He served his community through a commendable career with the Indianapolis Police Department, where he served with distinction.
Dave was known for his warm sense of humor, which brightened the lives of those around him. He had a passion for driving his beloved Corvette. An enthusiastic golfer, Dave enjoyed spending time on the course, relishing both the challenge of the game and the closeness it brought him to his family and friends. His love for Hawaiian shirts reflected his vibrant personality and zest for life.
In his spare time, Dave tapped into his creative side, making beautiful jewelry from stones that he collected and tumbled.
He is survived by his daughter, Patty (Toby) Ledford, and son, Josh (Anastasia) Matthews; grandson, Mack; and sister, Sue Harger who will carry forward his legacy of humor, and creativity. He is preceded in passing by his parents, Otho and Helen Matthews; sisters, Jean and Louise; and a brother, Lee. His beloved fur babies, Meka and Mika, also await him in the afterlife.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no formal service of remembrance, but those who knew Dave are encouraged to remember him fondly in their own special ways. Dave would love for you to enjoy some sushi, play a round of golf, or just drive around enjoying the fall scenery in his memory.
