Thomas F. McCartin was born January 27th, 1930, in Philadelphia to Michael and Rose McCartin. He was the brother to Charles McCartin. Tom attended South Catholic High School where he was a standout football player. He then served in the United States Navy. Tom played semi pro football for the Frankford Yellowjackets and Atlantic City Reds. He was a longtime employee of Bell Telephone where he met his wife, Madeline. He was a longstanding parishioner of St. Catherine of Sienna in Horsham, belonging to the Knights of Columbus, serving as an usher for many years, and perhaps the oldest alter "boy" for the parish. As a passionate Philadelphia sports fan, he recognized the importance of organized sports for children. Tom helped launch the CYO sports program at St. Catherine of Sienna and served as coach for various football, baseball, and basketball teams during his children's youth.
Tom was predeceased by his wife of over 50 years Madeline (nee Shutlock), a devoted father to his five children, Thomas McCartin (Megan), Michael F. McCartin (Chris), Ann Dowdell, Marybeth Talbot (Bruce), and John McCartin. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Michael J. McCartin, Kristin R. Otto, Erika L. Fitzpatrick, Casey Bopp, Katie Seip, Kelly McCartin, Rebecca Dowdell, Shannon Talbot, and Daniel Talbot along with his great grandchildren, Liam Otto, Brody Otto, Finn Fitzpatrick, Lydia Seip, and Jackson Bopp.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Tuesday January 21, 2025 from 10am to 10:45am at St. Catherine of Sienna RC Church, 321 Witmer Road, Horsham PA 19044. Funeral Mass will follow at 11am.
Interment will be in St. John Neumann Cemetery, 3797 County Line Rd, Chalfont, PA 18914.
