Thomas M. McDermott of Dumont, New Jersey was 91 years old when he passed away Tuesday, March 4th, 2025 one day short of his 92nd birthday. Born in New York City, Thomas was raised in Staten Island. As a young man he enlisted in the United States Army Airborne, proudly serving his country as a Paratrooper and Squad Leader of the 187th Infantry Regiment during the the Korean War. After coming home from the war, Thomas went on a blind date and met Marie Liocono. The couple would later marry and were together until Marie's passing in 2011 after 54 years of marriage.
Thomas was predeceased by his beloved wife Marie, he is survived by his loving children Thomas M. McDermott, Jr. and Debbie Portillo. Thomas is the devoted brother of Cathleen Tomasello and the cherised grandfather of Danielle Scott DePerto and her husband Anthony and Robert Portillo. He is also survived by his dear great grandchildren Anthony Scott DePerto, Jr., Audrey Scott DePerto, and Vincent Scott DePerto.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at the Boulevard Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1151 River Road, New Milford, NJ on Thursday, March 6th from 2 pm to 4 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm. The following day, Friday, a Funeral Mass will be celebrated in his memory in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Dumont at 9:30 am. Burial to follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Tunnel To Towers Foundation @ wwwT2T.org
