Thomas J. McGrath, Jr., 85, of Worcester, MA passed away at Tatnuck Park on November 30, 2022, with family by his side.
He leaves behind his bride of 64 years, Barbara (Auren) McGrath; his daughter Deborah Chouinard and her husband, Donald of Bluffton, SC; his two sons, Michael S. McGrath of Boston, MA and Thomas M. McGrath and his wife, Deborah of Bondsville, MA. Tom was a loving and devoted grandfather to Christopher Chouinard and his wife Jessie of Anderson, SC; Matthew Chouinard and his wife Laura of Omaha, NE; Kaitlin LeClair of Seneca, SC; Samantha McGrath and husband, Nicholas Bunker of Oxford, MA; Elizabeth McGrath and fiancé, Kyle Kazarian of Worcester, MA; Jessica McGrath and fiancé, Collin Sexton of Chicopee, MA and Joshua McGrath of Bondsville, MA. He was privileged to have three great grandchildren, Claire and Jamie Chouinard and Kaden Sexton. He was predeceased by his parents, Helen (Fleming) and Thomas J. McGrath, Sr., and his sister Mary Cyr. He leaves behind two sisters, Helen Keaney and Margaret O’Loughlin and her husband, Michael, along with many nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Worcester Vocational Technical High School in Worcester, MA in 1956. He proudly served in the US Navy on the USS Boston and on February 1, 1958, he married the love of his life, Barbara. They started their beautiful family and he dedicated his life to the United States Postal Service, where he worked for nearly 40 years prior to retiring. He was also active in the mail handlers union for several years. Thomas was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was a very religious man and active with the St. Joan of Arc parish for decades. In retirement, he enjoyed volunteering at the St. Joan of Arc food pantry, spending his time with grandchildren and was an avid fan of New England sports. Thomas was a supportive, kind and caring, tough but fair, strong and compassionate man who loved life.
Calling hours will be Monday, December 5, 2022 from 9:00-10:30AM at Callahan Fay Caswell Life Celebration Home, 61 Myrtle St, Worcester, MA. A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, December 5, 2022 at 11:00AM at St. Joan of Arc Church, 570 Lincoln Street, Worcester, with burial to follow in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, Catholic Charities Worcester County or a charity of your choice. Callahan Fay Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester, MA will be directing arrangements.
