Thomas Charles (Tucker) McHugh
August 20, 1948 – July 26, 2024
A man with a quintessential Irish heart and spirit, Tucker McHugh left an indelible legacy of deep faith, love of others, and unending hopefulness.
From his childhood on Capitol Hill until his last days in Magnolia, Tucker embraced all things Seattle. He was the fortunate fourth child of six born to T.S. and Alice McHugh. Tucker was quick to regale his fondest childhood stories from growing up on "the hill" with his parents and siblings.
Tucker attended St. Joseph's School, Seattle Prep ('67), and Seattle University ('71). He was forever grateful for his education, faith, and the countless friends he made. He loved the various school reunions, as much as a spontaneous interaction around town with an old classmate or neighbor.
Tucker married his wife Mimi in 1982, developing deep roots in Magnolia where they raised their four sons. He cherished (almost) every moment of being a dad to his four boys, always finding joy in their accomplishments and adventures.
Tucker loved entertaining family and friends. He always made sure there was a seat at the table for everyone and a beautiful prime rib in the oven.
Always believing that Seattle at its' core is a world class city, Tuck enjoyed telling stories dating back to its earliest days. He cared deeply about all aspects of Seattle culture and was more than enthusiastic to take one on a driving tour (with stops at Dick's and Ivar's, of course).
Without a doubt, Tucker's curious mind and love of meeting people and learning their stories enriched his life and countless others. Mostly, Tuck was a humble man whose love, sense of fun and occasional mischief is quite legendary. Finally, Tuck was a man of deep gratitude, had a sense of self that was not prideful, relished in others' victories, and completely delighted in being in the company of every age and background.
Tucker and his family are forever grateful for his care team led by Dr. Soma Subramaniam at the Swedish Cancer Institute.
Tucker is survived by his wife, Mimi, sons; Gavin, Patrick (Morgan), Reilly, Connolly (Katie); grandson Brayden; siblings Mick (Tracy), Sheila (Marco Jr) Magnano, Frank "F.X." (Ofelia), Kathleen "Mud", John Martinelli; Mimi's siblings Ernie (Kitty) Ketcham, Blanche (Russ) Signalness, Victoria (Richard) Juster, Melanie Ketcham; and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents T.S and Alice, his sister Maureen Martinelli, and Mimi's parents, Buzz and Josie Ketcham (Haynes).
A celebration of Tucker's life will be held at 10am on Saturday, August 31st at St. James Cathedral. Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the Carmelite Monastery of Seattle, St. James Cathedral Kitchen, Christ Our Hope Catholic Church, or the T.C. & Ella McHugh Scholarship Fund at Seattle Preparatory School.
