Portsmouth, NH – Thomas Carlton McNeil, age 76, passed away on October 22, 2025 at Portsmouth Hospital following a brief illness.
He was born in Portsmouth on May 16, 1949, son of the late Carlton Joseph McNeil and Phyllis Eileen (Packer) McNeil. He attended Portsmouth schools and resided in his hometown for many years after living in Texas.
Before retirement, Tom worked in construction as a carpenter and built homes.
Tom was a man of many interests. He loved the outdoors and the family camp at Merrymeeting Lake in New Durham, New Hampshire. He loved nature and his dogs, and he enjoyed fishing, reading, photography, music, playing guitar, and researching family genealogy. Tom also loved to restore old cars and houses.
He was preceded in death by his son, Shawnn McNeil, who passed away in 2020. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Christian & Angela McNeil of Denison, TX; four grandchildren, Tristan, Konnor, Keenan and Keeley McNeil. In addition, he survived by his siblings and their spouses: David & Becky McNeil of Greenland, Linda & Rick Stanwood, Jeannie & Bob Lenahan, all of Portsmouth, and Peter & Anne McNeil of Newburyport, MA; his decades-long friend, Marilee Rauh of Sutton, MA; and many nieces, nephews and cousins throughout the Northeast.
SERVICES – Services will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the NHSPCA in Stratham, N.H. in Tom's name. Arrangements in care of the J.
