Loving husband of Dania. Beloved father of Clayton Dean (Carol) Weitzel, Kimberly (Brian) Downey, the late Thomas A. Mech, Jr. and Darryll (Virginia) Mech. Cherished Papa of Ryan (Lauren) Weitzel, Rachel (Michael) McCafferty, Brandielynn (Derek) Halasi, Stephanie (Billy) Mech, Matthew Mech, Dylan LaFave, Andrea Mech, Rebecca (Kyle) Parks and Renee Mech. Adored great Papa Tom of Lily Weitzel, Paige Weitzel, Hazel McCafferty, Ruby McCafferty, Alison Halasi, Danica Halasi, Riley Halasi, Clementine Halasi, Hailey Woycik and Delaney Parks. Dear brother of Cecilia Martin, Mary Campbell and Christina Mech. Dear son of the late Stanley and the late Frances Mech.
Tom was a proud American and a proud US Navy veteran. He was devout in his faith and prayed the Rosary daily.
Tom's family meant the world to him. He was a quiet, gentle, generous and loving example of a husband, father, papa, brother and a friend. Tom's heart was full with love for his family. Any chance he could help, he leapt at the chance. Tom and Dania - his beloved "Shorty" - shared nearly 52 wonderful years of marriage, but celebrated every month together.
Tom loved to go to the cottage at Higgins Lake, barbecuing and was excited to share his love of fishing with every member of the family. Tom was also a lover of classic cars and anything automotive. He enjoyed when he could attend NASCAR races, going to the Grand Prix or Indy 500. One of Tom's favorite moments was being able to drive on the Michigan International Speedway.
Tom's passing is met with great sadness, but he will always be cherished in beautiful memories by his loving family and the numerous friends he met along the way.
Visitation Friday, June 23, 2023 3-8pm with a 7pm Rosary at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons Inc., 36900 Schoenherr at Metro Parkway (16 Mile). Instate Saturday 9:00am until time of 10am Mass at St. Matthias Church 12311 19 Mile Rd (Between Schoenherr & Clinton River Rd). Interment at White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Tom's honor to Wounded Warriors, Wigs for Kids or St. Matthias Catholic Church.
