Known affectionately as Tom or Tommy, passed away on July 15, 2024, at the age of 69, in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina surrounded by his loved ones. Born on July 8, 1955, in Rochester, NY, Tom lived a life marked by his kind and funny nature, independence, and a deep love for his family and friends. His personality drew people towards him like a moth to a flame.
Tom retired as a mechanic from Monroe County Pure Waters, where he dedicated many years of service.
His work was not just a job but a part of his identity, reflecting his proud and caring personality. Even after retirement, Tom's natural outgoing nature meant he was always surrounded by friends and colleagues who respected and admired him.
Beyond his professional life, Tom was an avid enthusiast of various hobbies that reflected his vibrant spirit. He loved riding his motorcycle, an activity that spoke to his sense of freedom, adventure and soul. Birdwatching and photography allowed him to explore and appreciate the natural world, capturing moments of beauty through his lens. Music and singing were also significant parts of his life, showcasing his optimistic and joyful approach to life. He had a voice that made people stop to hear from near and far. His ability to light up a dark room will be forever missed. Tom lived a life worth living filled with remarkable memories and good times.
Tom is survived by his loving daughter, Lindsay Meng; 4 step daughters, Shawnette Lawson, Brittany Vanwey, Heather Brown, and Nichole Fulmer; 2 grandchildren, Caleb and Savannah Gaddis; siblings, Robert and James Meng, Patricia Amen, and Mary Coyle. As well as many nieces, nephews, and step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Author Meng; mother, Helen Meng (Trott); and brother, John Meng.
Per my father's final wishes, he did not want to have a funeral or memorial service but to scatter his ashes which I will plan at a later date to celebrate his life.
