Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services - Maple LakeThomas E. Mooney, age 86, of Maple Lake, died Sunday, March 29, 2026, at home surrounded by family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 20, 2026, at St. Timothy's Catholic Church, Maple Lake with visitation from 9-10:30 a.m. at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Maple Lake. Fr. Kevin Magner will Celebrate the Mass. Burial will follow at St. Timothy Catholic Cemetery, Maple Lake. Memorials are preferred to the Maple Lake Fire Department.
Thomas Edward Mooney was born on August 2, 1939, in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Ralph and Mary (Jindrich) Mooney. Tom was a 1957 graduate of Maple Lake High School, and soon after began a career in sales, working for Jude Candy and Tobacco Company and Maple Lake Lumber Company. He also worked in construction for a short time with his brother-in-law, Jack, in Alaska, and Winkelman Building Corp. in St. Cloud. His professional life was complemented by his service as a firefighter for the Maple Lake Fire Department for 39 years.
On July 11, 1959, Tom married Kathleen Mavencamp at St. Timothy's Catholic Church. They raised their family in Maple Lake. Tom was a man of many passions, finding joy in the great outdoors through hunting and fishing, as well as playing horseshoes and bowling. He had a profound appreciation for reading as well. As a member of the Maple Lake American Legion, Maple Lake American Legion Honor Guard, and the Maple Lake Fire Department, he demonstrated his commitment to service and camaraderie.
Tom is survived by his wife of 66 years, Kate of Maple Lake; children Renee (Kirk) Boraas of Chanhassen, and Greg (Julie) of Maple Lake; daughter-in-law, Patty Mooney of Maple Lake; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Donald Mooney of Maple Lake; and many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Mary; son, Jeff; brothers, David and Alfred Mooney; sister, Mary Ann Fieldseth; and great-grandson Elijah Helmbrecht.
Michael, Joe, Matt, Luke, and Craig Mooney and Tyler Horner will serve as urn bearers. Music for the service will be provided by Krista Elsenpeter and Shannon Paumen. Arrangements entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care Burial and Cremation Services of Maple Lake.
Thanks to all who helped honor the life of Tom and in his familiar parting words, "Take Care."
