Thomas Mulvey Obituary

Thomas R. Mulvey, Jr. ("Mulv"), 75, of Mahwah, NJ, passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2025. He was born on November 8, 1949, in Teaneck, NJ, to Thomas Sr. and Marguerite Mulvey. He was the oldest of five children and raised in Waldwick, NJ. He married Nadine Mabie in 1971, after first meeting her in grade school at the Waldwick town pool. They moved to Mahwah shortly after marriage, where they raised their family.

He became a policeman for the Township of Mahwah in 1971, eventually becoming a detective and, later, the Juvenile Detective, much to the dismay of his children. He coached recreation football. He later became the Code Enforcement Officer for Mahwah Township and spent some of his retirement working at Barnegat Lighthouse. He was a Renaissance Man: he previously owned a painting business, a limousine company, and believed duct tape could fix anything.

Favorite pastimes included watching his beloved Giants and Yankees. He was a voracious reader. His family rarely saw him without that day's newspaper or his latest library find in his hands - usually a crime drama. His favorite topic of conversation started with, "What are you reading?" He loved days down at his beach house and his Golden Retriever, Bailey, spending time with his wife, kids and grandchildren, and celebrating St. Patrick's Day. He also loved old cars. He knew the answer to every question, earning him the nickname "Tom Google."

Tom will be greatly missed by his devoted and loving wife of 54 years, Nadine, and by his daughters Shannon Mulvey (Tom Annuik), Melissa Imparato (Michael) and his son, Todd Mulvey (Paige). Tom is also survived by his grandchildren, Sam, Zach, Mia, Claire, Margo, Max, Blake and Easton, (all of whom affectionately called him "Bubs"), his siblings,Terrence Mulvey (Ruth) and Meg Casey, and his in-laws, Donna and Rick Peters, and Valerie and Ron Dryka. He is predeceased by his parents and brothers Timothy and Sean Mulvey.

Tom never met someone he didn't consider a friend and his last words were, "Tell all my friends I said hi." It would be hard to sum him up in a nutshell, but if we had to, that would be how his family would most fondly remember him, a stranger to no one and a friend to all. Everyone, to him, was "Moose." His conversations with his "Mooses" never officially ended, as he always followed up with a, "So, what else?" And, we will forever toast him with "something in a brown".

Family and friends are welcome to gather on Thursday, October 9, from 4 pm to 8 pm at Feeney Funeral Home, 232 Franklin Avenue, Ridgewood, NJ. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 10, at 10 am at St. Luke Roman Catholic church, 340 North Franklin Turnpike, in Ho-ho-kus, NJ, followed by interment at St. Luke Cemetery, also in Ho-ho-kus, NJ. In lieu of flowers, Tom's family asks for donations to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation at 1-877-GOKOMEN or https://www.komen.org/how-to-help/donate/memorial-giving/.
