Thomas "Tom" P. Murphy of Arlington passed away peacefully at his home on August 21, 2024, at the age of 75, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on August 9, 1949, Tom grew up in Cambridge before setting up permanent roots in Arlington. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Jeanne (Gray) and their three children; Brian and his wife Laurel of Winchester, Melissa Morrison of Bedford, and Kerry Murphy of Arlington. He was Grampy to his six cherished grandchildren; Mia, Ally, and Ava Murphy of Winchester, Jake and Cassie Morrison of Bedford, and Ronan Murphy of Arlington. Tom was a brother-in-law to Richard Gray of Eugene, OR and the late Ronald Gray of Arlington. He is additionally survived by his brothers Timothy and Charles, and his sister Nancy. Tom was the son of the late Charles and Dorothy (Leccacorvi). He leaves behind his lifelong friends, Brian Hayes, Tom and Beth Healey and John Bernard. Tom was his family's biggest supporter and could often be found on the sidelines of all the grandkids playing fields and in the front row of musicals and plays at their schools.
Tom grew up in Jefferson Park and was named the best athlete in the City of Cambridge and was a captain of the hockey and baseball teams for Cambridge High & Latin. He went on to earn a Bachelor's and Master's Degree while also playing college hockey. Tom carried his love of sport into his professional life serving as a physical education teacher at the Tobin School in Cambridge for nearly 35 years. He also coached high school hockey and football while working for the City of Cambridge School Department. His passion was teaching, coaching and mentoring the younger generations. Tom touched the lives of many people and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Services will be private and at a later date.
