It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thomas P. Murphy, affectionately known to many as Murph, who departed this life on May 6, 2025, in Cortland Manor at the age of 85. Born on October 23, 1939, in New York City and raised in the serene surroundings of Carmel, NY, Thomas exemplified kindness, dedication, and an unwavering love for his family.
After graduating from high school, Thomas honored his country by serving in the Navy, a chapter that instilled in him a sense of duty and commitment. In 1962, he met the love of his life, Nellie Ramirez, and together they built a beautiful life, celebrating 63 wonderful years of marriage. They raised their five cherished children-Victor Murphy, John Murphy (who predeceased him on January 16, 1986), Lori Aliberti, Kristina O'Gorman, and Kelly Murphy-nurturing them in the vibrant community of Tarrytown, NY.
Thomas's family extended to include his daughters-in-law and sons-in-law: Pam Murphy, Sebastian Aliberti, Eddie O'Gorman. He took immense pride in his grandchildren and their spouses, including the late Christopher Murphy, Victor John Murphy, wife Katherine Murphy, Chelsea Murphy, Sebastian Aliberti, wife Alyssa Aliberti, Jonathan Aliberti, Christian Aliberti, Alessandra Aliberti, Olivia O'Gorman, and EJ O'Gorman. He was also a devoted great-grandfather to Leiyla Murphy, Andreiya Murphy, Jackson Murphy, Fiona Aliberti, Rocco Aliberti, and Amelia Aliberti.
A man of remarkable character, Thomas was known for his unwavering kindness and generosity. He worked diligently throughout his life, always putting others before himself and seeing the good in everyone he met. His infectious laughter and love for telling jokes made him the life of any gathering, and he delighted in dancing at family celebrations. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren meant the world to him, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Thomas's legacy is one of love and kindness, and anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him smiled at how truly wonderful he was. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished in the hearts of those who loved him.
A celebration of Thomas's life will be held on May 21, 2025, at 5 PM, at Modern on The Rails, located in Mamaroneck, New York, 10543. All are welcome to join in honoring a remarkable man whose spirit will continue to inspire us all.
