Thomas Neves was born to Noel (Hum) and Clarice Neves on April 6, 1938 in San Francisco, CA. He grew up in Martinez, CA. At about the age of 10, Marguerite entered his life as his step mom. In high school, Tom was involved in many clubs, including drama, the California Scholarship Federation, helped in the library, and key club. He also developed a strong interest in cars and motorcycles in his youth, something that stayed with him throughout his life. He even engaged in some amateur drag racing.
Tom raised 9 (yes, NINE!) children. He married Peggy on May 8, 1975, and they blended their combined 6 kids and then had 3 more. Tom was an attentive and loving dad. He was a strong supporter of marching band, even leading one of the South Bay Area's larger marching band competitions. On the day of the competition, he could be seen zooming around on his rollerblades to quickly get around and oversee the event. He was a supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, and shepherded his sons and many young men through the program. He put his family first, and would sacrifice his time and energy for us.
Tom was an accomplished Packaging Engineer, and won international awards for his designs, which were praised for the functionality and simplicity of design, allowing the product, and not the packaging, be the highlight. This was emblematic of who he was, rejoicing in the success of others.
Tom will be known as someone who had an optimistic personality, and always saw the good in everything and everyone.
Tom and Peggy served 2 missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints: first to St. Louis, Missouri, and then to Hartford, Connecticut.
Tom is survived by his wife of 50 years, Peggy; sister Arlis (Don) Johnson; son Don (Lori); son Russ (Jennifer); son Charlie; daughter Mary (Ron) Simpson; son Matt (Debbie) Davis; son Ed (Alma) Davis; daughter Amy; son Paul (Suzy).
Tom was preceded in death by parents Noel and Clarice; step mom Marguerite; sister Donna; and son Mark.
Tom has 15 grandkids and 19 (and counting!) great-grandkids.
Services will be held in Utah on Thursday April 3 at 11am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1355 E 7200 S, Salt Lake City, UT, 84121, with the burial on April 8 at 1pm at Newcastle Cemetery, located at 850 Taylor Rd, Newcastle, CA, 95658.
