Allene Jones Remington 1925-2025

Allene peacefully left her physical body on August 25, 2025 and is now experiencing the freedom and joy of being physically unencumbered.

Allene was born May 11th, 1925 in Corsicana, Texas to Sam P Jones and Lois Niell.

Allene grew up during the years of the Great Depression which instilled a deep sense of gratitude for a connection with people and a desire to share what she had with others. In spite of the hardships of that time, her father always had a camera to record the precious moments of life. Allene grew to love photography which later became a passion and a business.

Following WWII, Allene moved west to Denver where she experienced snow banks for the first time and developed a new found love for skiing and other outdoor activities such as horseback-riding, hiking and climbing. She later moved to Salt Lake City where she joined the Wasatch Mountain Club and established life-long friendships that endured countless humorous adventures.

Allene met the love of her life, Lowell Remington, her husband of 65 years in Salt Lake. They lived for a short time in Bridgeport, Connecticut before moving back to Salt Lake to settle and have a family. Together they continued to nurture their love for the outdoors and always had a trip planned. Having children did not slow them down. They also enjoyed music and were part of a professional square-dancing group.

Allene and Lowell started a retail photography store and photofinishing business, the Shutterbug Photo, and later the Remington-Inkley Corporation with Ron and Ethal Inkley.

Allene's study of metaphysics and mysticism led her to co-establish the Teaching of the Inner Christ, and later the Inner Light Center which she co-founded with Ellen Vlassic. She was an active minister for many years and remained involved for life.

She went to the University of Utah in her 60s with an interest in the Women's Resource Center, and was accepted in the Honor's Program.

Allene loved life, and loved people and relationships above all else. She had a great sense of humor and always respected a witty pun.

Allene's husband, Lowell Remington and son, Stuart Remington predeceased Allene. She is survived by three children: Jeri Fowles (Ed Kosmicki); Bruce Remington (Piper Lever); and Lois Remington (Skip Gaynard). Grandchildren are Remy Fowles (Thomas Lee); Christopher Fowles (Tillie McGinnis); Jackson Remington and Paige Remington and great-grandchild Florence Fowles.
