Alice Marie Remington, 92, formerly of Berwick and a guest at Fellowship Manor, Whitehall, passed away on August 10, 2025.
Born June 27, 1933 in Scranton, she was the third oldest of a family of eight children to the late Joseph and Hedwig (Hungerbuhler) Kloss.
Alice graduated from St. Mary's Parochial School in Scranton with 12 years of perfect attendance. She worked as a telephone operator from 1951-1955 at Bell Telephone Co. in Scranton and it was there that she met her loving husband, Charles F. Remington, who was Plant Manager. They were married for 60 years. Alice also worked part-time at the Medicine Shoppe in Berwick from 1984-1990. But her most coveted role was that of wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Alice was very active in her community and served on many boards and committees, including Welcome Wagon, Berwick Hospital Auxiliary and Gift Shops, Berwick Retirement Village Nursing Home Advisory Board Member, Advisory Board Member of Columbia County Children and Youth Services, Penn's Woods Girl Scouts Board of Directors, and Den Mother for Troop 12. She volunteered on various campaigns, such as the Heart Fund, Cancer Drive and United Way. She was a hospice volunteer and an 11-gallon blood donor. Alice was also instrumental in getting school bus service for the children of Woodcrest (1969).
In 2003, Alice was presented with the Auxiliary Endowment Award for outstanding volunteer spirit, leadership and dedication to the Berwick Health and Wellness Foundation Auxiliary. In 2008, Alice received the AARP Community Service Award.
She was a devout Catholic her entire life and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Berwick, where she volunteered in numerous activities as well as serving on the Liturgical Committee, Hospitality Committee and Funeral Choir.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, Charles F. Remington; two sisters: Mary Kloss and Roseanne Kloss; and three brothers: Paul Kloss, Martin Kloss and Robert Kloss.
Surviving are her four children and their spouses: Stephen F. Remington and his wife, Micki (Hause) Remington of Gettysburg, PA, Diane R. Creme and her husband Matthew J. Creme of Lancaster, PA, Sharon A. Schell and her husband, Brian D. Schell of Cherryville, PA and Jeffrey D. Remington and his wife Helen (Scanlon) Remington of State College, PA; 11 grandchildren: Erin (Schell) Steiner and her husband Nicholas Steiner, Catherine (Creme) Henry and her husband Steven, Andrew Remington and his wife Shanna (Price), Paul Creme and his wife, Laura Eppstein, Brigid (Remington) Bowland and her husband Adam, Allison Schell and her husband Chase Diem, Abigail Remington and her fiancée, Dusty Rhoades, Sara Crème Trunk and her husband Kyle Trunk, Brandon Remington and his wife, Erin (Palmer), Alex Remington and his wife, Maura (McGowan), and Brian Remington; 9 great-grandchildren: Luke, Charlie, Jude, Dylan, Eli, Maya, Owen, Halle and Frederick; her brother, Joseph Kloss and his wife, Catherine of Scranton, PA; her sister, Frances Blanchard and her husband, Robert, of Yorktown, VA ; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Friday, August 15, 2025 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1730 Fowler Ave., Berwick, with the Rev. William T. Barbee, her pastor, officiating as Celebrant.
Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Berwick.
