Malcolm "Mac" Walter Remington
August 6, 1942 – June 12, 2025
Malcolm Walter Remington, lovingly known as "Mac," passed away of old age on June 12, 2025, at his home in Waldport, Oregon, surrounded by his family. He was 82.
Born August 6, 1942, in Portland, Oregon, Mac was the son of Marie Anna (Tol) Remington and Maurice Mahlon Remington. He grew up in Waldport, where his early years were shaped by the coastal landscape and small-town values. Mac's father passed away when he was just 10 years old, and his mother later remarried before passing away when Mac was 18. With both parents gone by the time he reached adulthood, Mac largely raised himself-earning his own way through school and life. That early independence forged the strength, grit, and compassion that defined his life.
After graduating from high school, Mac moved to the Portland area, where he lived and worked for about a decade before returning to Waldport-a place that always felt like home. He would spend the rest of his life there, building a family, a business, and a lasting legacy.
Mac married the love of his life, Judy Lee Eriksen, on February 7, 1962. Together they shared over six decades of marriage, full of hard work, laughter, family, and a love of life that was infectious. If there wasn't a party, Mac and Judy would make one-often at the Salty Dawg or the Moose Lodge-where they created lifelong friendships and great memories.
Mac's career reflected his tireless work ethic. He started young as a commercial crabber, became a skilled sheet metal journeyman, owned and operated Mac's Chevron Service in Waldport, and later worked as a respected general contractor. He approached every job with integrity and pride-and expected the same of those who worked alongside him, especially his kids.
Mac gave back to his community in countless ways. He coached Little League baseball, junior high boys' and girls' basketball, and even founded the Pee Wee basketball league in Waldport. He was active in the Jaycees and Moose organizations, where his dedication to service and camaraderie stood out.
He was a die-hard fan of both the Oregon State Beavers and the Oregon Ducks, and spent many a weekend cheering on football, basketball, and auto racing. Sports weren't just a pastime for Mac-they were a way of connecting with his kids and building character.
Mac was the kind of man who befriended everyone-regardless of race, religion, politics, or background. He treated people with respect and kindness, and if someone was in need, Mac was there. He gave freely of his time, his resources, and his heart-offering shelter, a job, or simply a listening ear. His generosity left a quiet but lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know him.
Above all, Mac will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, and true friend. He taught his children-Tad, Troy, and Tracy Remington-not just how to work, but how to live with strength, humility, and compassion.
He is survived by his wife Judy, their children, extended family, and many close friends who will continue to carry forward his legacy of loyalty, laughter, and love.
A celebration of life gathering will be held in the next few months; please look for time and place on Facebook. Mac will be laid to rest at the Eureka Cemetery & Mausoleum in Newport. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to a local charity of your choice in Mac's memory.
