Thomas "Tom" Roy Nimtz, age 73, of Waterford, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on April 19, 2025. Tom was born on March 29, 1952, in Watervliet, Michigan, to Roy and Bernadette Nimtz (née Koranda). He graduated from Watervliet High School in 1970 and went on to earn his bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Michigan State University in 1974. It was at MSU where Tom met the love of his life, Lisa Alt-his dorm neighbor and future wife. The two were married in 1976 and built a life filled with love, laughter, and deep devotion to their family. A dedicated and hardworking man, Tom spent over 40 years in production control at Chrysler before retiring. Outside of work, he cherished time spent at the family cottage on Elbow Lake. He was an avid stamp collector, card player, and a loyal MSU Spartan. Tom especially enjoyed games of pinochle and euchre with family and friends.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Lisa Nimtz (née Alt); his children William Nimtz and Krystal (Matthew) Wood; and his cherished grandchildren, Theodore and Cameron Wood. He also leaves behind his dear sister Sandra (John) Strenk, nephews Gabriel and Jordan Strenk, and his adored Pomeranians, Dolce and Rocky.
Family and friends will be received on Friday April 25th from 4:00 – 9:00 PM at Coats Funeral Home – Waterford (3141 Sashabaw Rd). A private family service and interment will take place at Crescent Hills Cemetery at a later date.
