Thomas M. Osiecki, 89, of Kenhorst, passed away on Friday, October 25, 2024, at Reading Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Frances I. "Renie" (Horodynska) with whom he shared 63 wonderful years of marriage.
Born June 18, 1935, in Reading, he was the son of the late James and Stella (Zielinski) Osiecki. He graduated from Reading High School, Class of 1953. He was a proud United States Army veteran. He retired as a salesman from Filbert's Seafood Company after 30 years.
He was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Church. As a 50+ year member of St. Anthony's of Padua, he served over ten years as the annual picnic chairman, and also was a long-time member of its Holy Name Society.
Tom was the life of every party with his huge, charming personality. He had an amazing sense of humor and people were drawn to him. He had a true zest for life, continuing to plan parties even during his illness.
Tom was very proud of his family, and lit up when his grandchildren and great-grandson visited. He loved family gatherings, enjoyed playing cards with friends, and relaxing on the beaches of Cancun, Aruba, and Wildwood Crest, NJ. He was a fixture and board member for many years at the Ken-Grill Pool since its opening. He appreciated all sports and especially rooting for Duke basketball and the New York Yankees. He and Renie traveled to many destinations including Hawaii, Alaska, Greece, California, Florida, and many other states. He was proud of his Polish heritage and enjoyed the Sunday morning Polka Show on WRAW. An athlete in many sports, he was drafted by the Washington Senators baseball team and played football, baseball, and basketball for the Army. After the Army, he played softball for the Sokols and other local social clubs, winning many individual titles and awards. He was a lifetime member of the Reading Berks Basketball Association, Inc., and inducted into the Berks Hall of Fame for four sports in 2009.
Left to treasure his memory are his wife, Renie; daughters, Stacy A. Hauk (Larry Epler) of Sinking Spring, Pamela M. Sutliff (Robert) of Lincoln Park; son, David J. (JoEllen), McHenry, MD; grandchildren, Mason (Jen), Madison (Adam), Samuel (Erica), Matthew (Courtney), Andrew, and Claire; great-grandson, Sutton; and brother Robert Osiecki of Bethlehem. He was waiting with much anticipation the births of his three new great-grandsons.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers: James, Henry, and William Osiecki.
His family is beyond grateful to the Veterans Association and their staff for their support. Tom also had many devoted caregivers, along with Renie, who provided quality of life over the last few years, for which the family is eternally thankful.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at 10 AM at St. Ignatius Loyola Church, 2600 St Albans Dr, Reading, PA 19609.
