Thomas (Tom) Dixie Owen of Foley, Alabama, died peacefully at home November 15, 2022, at the age of 86. Tom was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi, May 25, 1936. His parents were Thomas D. and Grace Berriman Owen. He married Sybil Yelverton on May 25, 2007.
Tom attended the University of Mississippi where he made lifelong friends in the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
While Tom worked in the bond business, he was also a talented jazz clarinetist who performed in the Memphis music scene for 50 years. Music was one of the loves of his life. When he retired to the Alabama Gulf Coast, he continued his musical activities performing in Mobile, Eastern Shore, and Pensacola. Only recently had he become too ill to perform.
Tom was an avid water person. He loved boating and the outdoors. He spent many hours on the Mississippi River, the Tennessee River, and Pickwick Dam.
Tom is survived by his loving wife Sybil and his son Kevin Lacey (Janice) of Collierville, TN; his stepchildren Melessia Mathis (Ray) of Jackson, TN; Vicki Morgan (Bob) of Edgemont, AR; Hardy Eason of St Louis, MO; Ray Eason (Kathy) of Huntsville, AL; his step-grandchildren Megan Thornton (Daniel) of Brownsville, TN; Douglas Mathis (Morgan) of Memphis, TN; Jessie Walker (Hunter) of Jackson, TN and great grand-daughter Susie Thornton of Brownsville, TN.
The funeral service will be held graveside at Oakwood Cemetery in Brownsville, TN on Saturday November 19 at 11:30 AM. Ed Raines will officiate the service. All arrangements are under the supervision of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home.
