Thomas "Tom" Piekut, aged 78, of East Greenwich, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, September 27, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. He was the cherished husband of Joan A. (Mercier) Cicione, with whom he enjoyed many joyful years.

Tom was born on December 29, 1946, in New Bedford, MA, to the late Alphonse and Mary (Polchlopek) Piekut. He graduated with a bachelor's degree from the University of Rhode Island and honorably served in the U.S. Army Reserves. Tom dedicated his professional life to the State of Rhode Island, working in the Departments of Human Services and Children, Youth, and Families, ultimately retiring as a hearing officer.

Known for his quiet demeanor, Tom led a life filled with intention. He was an avid runner, participating in numerous marathons, and was a proud member of the former Ocean State Athletic Club. A true self-taught craftsman, he honed his skills through dedication and passion. Together with Joan, he explored various corners of the world, traveling extensively through Europe, Morocco, Nepal, South America and India.

Tom lovingly embraced Joan's children as his own, and took immense pride and joy in his role as a grandfather. He is survived by his devoted wife, Joan; stepson Erich Cicione and his wife Carolyn; stepdaughter Lauren (Cicione) Perdue and her husband Brandon; and his three beloved grandchildren, Luca, Sabine, and Anaya. Additionally, he is survived by his brother, Alphonse Piekut and his wife Dolores; and was a proud uncle to Sarah, Audrey, James, and Richard, as well as the brother-in-law of Margaret and Harold Fletcher.

The family will have a private burial at the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Brain Tumor Association in honor of Thomas C. Piekut at https://give.abta.org/give/261975/#!/donation/checkout.
