Thomas Reichert Obituary

"Tom"

Thomas Evans

Reichert Thomas Evans "Tom" Reichert passed away on May 21, 2011 of a heart attack, at the age of 68.

Tom lived a colorful life, which included careers making surf boards and then working as a farrier (horseshoer). He also involved himself in taking rodeo photographs, showing his Australian Cattle Dogs at AKC obedience shows, helping with establishing early AKC Cattle Dog trials, acting as a judge for cattle working trials. He also worked with ornamental iron, ran a llama trekking business in the '80s, became a falconer in the '90s, and lastly, returned to one of his first loves, hot and street rods. Tom was out-going and friendly, and a go-getter at participating and getting things done, including being president of the Virginia Farriers Association in its early years, and also as a president of the Llama Association of the MidAtlantic States in its early years. He participated in the Virginia Falconry Association until health conditions no longer allowed him to continue with his falconry. In 2009, he got a 1937 Ford Tudor Deluxe, a street rod already lovingly restored as a "driver". He loved working on the car, enjoyed going to car shows, and driving through downtown Culpeper and hearing kids yell out "Cool car!" He was an active member of the Bull Run Street Rods. There are many in the Culpeper and Warrenton areas who will remember the guy with the wonderful blue eyes, mustache, ready grin and joking ways, who could jabber away for hours.

Tom is survived by his wife, Dale; they had known each other for over 37 years, and were married for 31. He is also survived by his brother, Harry (Tamera); nephew, Shawn (Tammy); niece, Patti (Matt); two great nephews, three great nieces and cousins Sharon Heft (Tom), Jim Padgett; 2nd cousins, Debbie and Susan (Todd), and 3rd cousins Marisa, Lindsay, Michelle, and Mellisa.

His father and mother, Harold J. and Patricia Irene Reichert (nee Evans) preceeded him in death.

A memorial service/wake will be held on Sunday, September 18th. Details available from his wife or friends. No flowers please. Any contributions to the Culpeper County Library in his name.
