Thomas J. "Tom" Roger died on October 1, 2024 at Goldwater Care in Princeton. He was born in Peoria Illinois on February 17, 1942 to the late Edward and Mary (Boehle) Roger. Tom attended Mid County Schools and graduated in 1960. He served in the US Army from 1964 to 1966 and was in Vietnam from 65 to 66. Tom worked for the Marshall County Highway department for 42 years, retiring in 2004. Tom helped start the Lacon Merchants fast pitch softball team in the 1970's, leading them through many names, from Lacon Merchants to Blarney Castle, then the Lacon Bombers, which finally merged with Two Brothers Tap. He was an avid snowmobiler when we had snow and A Green Bay Packers & University of Illinois fan. Tom enjoyed his time involved in the Chillicothe Recreational Area, of which he was one of the founding members. Tom was also a member of the Lacon American Legion Post #593, the Chillicothe VFW Post, and a 50-year member of the Peoria Barbershop Society Chorus. Tom is survived by his siblings Anne (Bob Haas) Roger of Washington DC; Charlie (Lori) Roger of Minneapolis; John Roger of Mouth of Wilson Virginia; Bill Roger of Lacon; niece Katherine (Scott Schwartz) Roger of Edina Minnesota; and nephew Jonathan Roger of Austin, Texas. Cremation rites have been accorded and services will be held on Wednesday October 16 at 11am at Lenz Memorial Home in Lacon with a visitation one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Lacon Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Lacon Sparland Ambulance and online condolences can be left at lenzmemorialhome.com.
