Thomas Roy Obituary

Thomas Lee Roy, 63, of Old Orchard Drive, Keyser, WV, died Monday, February 16, 2026 at his residence.

Born on April 1, 1962 in Keyser, WV, he was a son of the late Homer William and Mabel Helen (McNeill) Roy. He also was preceded in death by his daughter, Kylee Elizabeth Roy; four brothers, William "Bill" Roy and his wife Marian, Frederick E. Roy, Wade "Buster" Roy and Dennis Roy and his wife Dottie; three sisters, Barbara Smith, Mary Angela Roy and Alma Grace Roy and a brother-in-law, Tim Llewellyn.

"Tom" as he was known to family and friends, was a 1980 graduate of Keyser High School. His entire working career centered around law enforcement beginning with the City of Keyser Police Department where he served as dispatcher. He also was employed with the West Virginia State Police as a dispatcher and driving exams tester. After his employment with the State Police, he returned to the City of Keyser where he served and retired as Chief of Police Communications. He was currently working for the Mineral County Sheriff's Department as Law Enforcement Administrative and Records Clerk and as a bailiff.

Tom was highly decorated by receiving numerous awards, most notably the FBI-Leeda Trilogy for Leadership, being the first civilian to ever receive that award; the Meritorious Service Award for 25 years of service with the City of Keyser and the WV Chiefs of Police Appreciation Award.

Tom was a member of the Sunnyside Covenant Brethren Church, New Creek, where he was a past member of the ministerial board. He also served as coach for the Keyser High School Special Teams in football for 10 years.

Surviving is his wife of 42 years, Michele E. (Hays) Roy; three sisters, Margaret "P-Nut" Roy of Keyser, Judi Roy of Yukon, OK and Robyn Llewellyn of Keyser; three sisters-in-law, Margie Roy of Keyser, Anna Roy of Keyser and Lisa Keller and husband Mark of Burlington, WV; two brothers-in-law, Ben Smith, Sr. of Farmington, WV and Richard Hays of Keyser; a niece, MaryElizabeth Keller; a nephew, Tristan Keller and numerous other nieces, nephews and grandnieces and nephews. He also leaves behind two special furbabies, Bella and Sophie.

Friends will be received at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Monday, February 23, 2026 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Randy Shoemaker officiating.

Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
