Thomas "Tommy" John Schaefer was born Christmas Day 1937. Tommy was a farmer from day one. He loved playing cards and gardening and was fortunate to love what he did, farming. He graduated High School from McIntire and married his grade school sweetheart Darlene Karen Scholl on October 22, 1960.
Together they had three children; Sheila (Tom) Flaherty of Adams, MN; Renae (Tim) Cody, Stewartville, MN; and Larry (Elizabeth) Schaefer, Manassis, VA.
Seven grandchildren Sean Flaherty, Lycus Flaherty, Lyndsey Davis, Kati (John) Cavanaugh, Cory Cody, Steven Schaefer, and Daniel (Jaylin) Schaefer.
Nine great-grandchildren Morgan and Emily Davis; Paisley, Preston, and Nanette Cavanaugh; Jace, Jostin, and Aurora Cody; and Desmond Schaefer.
He is survived by all those above and his only sibling, Mike Schaefer of McIntire.
He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Ann (Jordan) Schaefer.
A public visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 from 2:00-4:00 pm at Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville, Iowa. Lindstrom Funeral Home is handling arrangements for the family.
