Thomas L. "Big Tom" Scherer, age 73, lifelong resident of Two Rivers, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday night, December 4, 2024 at the Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers.
Tom was born in Two Rivers on May 29, 1951 to George E. and Gertrude E. (Wiese) Scherer. He attended St. Luke's Catholic School and was a 1969 graduate of Washington High School in Two Rivers. On August 31, 1974 he was united in marriage to Catherine M. Boutin at St. Luke's Catholic Church. The couple was blessed with four children and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past August. Tom worked for the Mirro Corporation for many years until it's closing. He then worked for the Metal Ware Corp in Two Rivers, and retired from Tramontina of Manitowoc. In his spare time, Tom enjoyed woodworking, painting, trains, and Clydesdale's. He had a special love for Santa's and loved the Christmas season. Above all, Tom loved the time spent with his family, especially being with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Cathy; four children: Thomas "Little Tom" Scherer II (fiance, Tammy), Heather (Michael) Ney, April (Christine) Decker, and Stacy (Troy) Schulz; his beloved grandkids: Kyle, Jacob, Hanna, MaKayla, and Rowan; Alexis, Aiden, Nick, and Orya; Christian and Tayten; Matthew and Wyatt; and one great-grandchild, Ayraimae. He is further survived by his brothers and sisters: Sister Mary Ann Scherer, Ruth (John) Seim, John Scherer (special friend, Kathy), Howard Scherer, and Paul (Ann) Scherer; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law: Roy (Elvira) Boutin, Judy Brouchoud, Bill Boutin, Debbie Wohlgemuth, Tammy (Mike) Antonie, Patty (Bill) Burroughs, and Todd (Shelby) Boutin; his beloved dog, Pudding; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Gertrude Scherer; brother, Robert Scherer; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Leo and Anna Boutin; one brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law: Barb Snyder, James Snyder, Sr. and Linda Gallagher.
A visitation will be held at the Deja & Martin Funeral Chapels, 1506 18th Street, Two Rivers on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. A funeral service led by Deacon Mark Knipp will begin at 1:00 o'clock, followed by burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers.
