Thomas Paul "Tom" Schmader III

THOMAS PAUL "TOM" SCHMADER III, 73, of Eleanor, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2025 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was a graduate of George Washington High School, and attended Morris Harvey College. At the age of 20, he purchased his first rental property, and continued buying, selling and renting properties throughout his lifetime. He retired after 35 years as an owner and manager of a wholesale magazine distribution business. Tom loved the Town of Eleanor, and was a past Eleanor Town Council Member, and was the current Building Inspector. He volunteered many hours to the town he loved over the years.
Born June 26, 1952 in Charleston, he was the son of the late Thomas P. Schmader, II and Alice Smith Schmader.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Neda K. Schmader; his sons, Thomas Paul (Staci) Schmader, IV of Eleanor, and Brandon Paul (Angee) Schmader of Scott Depot; grandchildren, Landyn Schmader, who lovingly knew his grandpa by the nickname "Cake"; and Mattie, Cayson, and Quentin Schmader, who lovingly knew him as "Gramps"; a brother, Steve Schmader of Boise, Idaho; as well as several beloved nieces and nephews.
In accordance with his wishes, his body was cremated. A Memorial Service will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at Raynes Funeral Home, Eleanor, with Pastor John Hudson officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Kanawha HospiceCare for the compassionate care during Tom's illness. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the ALS Foundation at ALS.org, or the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at stjude.org.
