Thomas Stapleton Obituary

Stapleton, Thomas J. 5/18/1950 - 3/7/2021 Ann Arbor, Michigan Thomas Joseph Stapleton, 70, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, passed on, with family by his side, to his new spiritual life on March 7, 2021 after several years as a resident at Regency at Bluffs Park. On February 17, 2021, Tom began Arbor Hospice while remaining at the Bluffs. On September 12, 2013, Tom had suffered a severe spinal cord injury after a fall at his home. He has spent the past seven and a half years fighting - and succeeding - in achieving a purposeful life. Tom was the fourth child of Helen (Fehr) Stapleton and Francis M. Stapleton, born on May 18, 1950, in Syracuse, New York. Tom graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in 1968 and Clarkson University in 1972, with a BS degree in Industrial Distribution. Upon graduation, Tom began a successful career as a sales representative, initially with Sybron, followed by Nalge and Corning corporations. After retiring from Corning, he was employed by Dot Scientific. Tom is survived by his five siblings, F. Michael (Kathleen) of Cortland, NY; Patricia Stapleton, of Syracuse NY; Terence (Gregory) Stapleton of Elizabethtown, NY; Kathryn (Thierry) Couturier of Santa Monica, CA; Susan Stapleton of Baldwinsville, NY; and honorary siblings, Perry and Casey Francis, of Ann Arbor; several cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He is also survived by many dear friends including his community at the Bluffs. Tom treasured his relationships. Memorial services will be held in Ann Arbor and Syracuse later in the spring. Memorial donations may be made to Tom's spiritual community at Lord of Light Lutheran Church, 801 S Forest St., Ann Arbor 48104 or to Arbor Hospice, 2366 Oak Valley Dr., Ann Arbor 48103. A special thank you to the wonderful staff and caregivers at Regency at Bluffs Park.

I was saddened to hear that Tom had left this world in April. I worked with him at Corning Life Sciences and I last saw him at a NAOSMM trade show in, I think, Minneapolis. I stayed in touch with Tom on his birthday and at Christmas. When I saw that the e-card I sent a few days ago had not been picked up, I feared the worst. He was so upbeat after his accident - a truly amazing man. I will miss him and I wish his family happy memories and peace.

I just learned of Tom's death from a Clarkson publication. We were friends through the Diocese of Syracuse CYO leadership group while both in high school. We stayed in touch for a short while but sadly, although I have thought of him over the years, lost touch in the 1970s. I am so glad to have had Tom in my life and was hoping to reconnect at some time. He was a great person, and I am sorry to learn of his accident and his premature death. Marie Sarno

Just happened upon Tom's obituary. I'm so sorry for your truly sad loss. I worked with Tom from 90-95 during his Corning years. He was a very special person and the world has lost a perfect soul. I have nothing but the fondest memories of Tom and now, I am grateful to have had him in my life. My thoughts are with his family who he talked about a lot with love and to all of the friends and coworkers who have been lucky enough to have known him.

Our sincerest condolences to Tom's family and friends. Rest In Peace Tom. We enjoyed Tom's friendship when we lived in Ann Arbor, and will never forget his abiding faith, his tales from an interesting life, and the laughs we shared over his sometimes good/sometimes bad puns.

Tom was a first class person, always courteous, pleasant and caring. I have known him since the mid 80's as his dentist. His accident was devastating, but in spite of that, he continued to be hopeful. I visited him regularly until the pandemic. He always inquired about people he knew, and I enjoyed our conversations. May God bless his soul.

Tom was a great guy and a fine competitor. Honorable and decent in all aspects of business.
